Micropitting is mainly caused by material fatigue; the continuous rolling action and friction between two gear teeth can deform and demand elasticity from the material, thus producing micro-fissures on and below the surface of gear teeth; these cracks can progressively expand until they force small pieces of material to detach, leaving a small cavity on the surface. Subsequently, these cavities may progressively expand or merge with other adjacent cavities, causing the release of a large splinter (spalling), which renders gears useless. LUBRAL MICROPITTING GEARS EP oil contains an additive package that provides protection against corrosion, and are specifically formulated to avoid this phenomenon.

APPLICATION

Enclosed gear systems requiring circulation lubrication; reducers; straight, conic, and helical gears; conveyer belt reducers; and wind turbines. Due to its anti-micropitting properties, these products reduce the effects of this type of wear on the gear surfaces of the equipment mentioned above.
